Brainwash Yourself To A New Reality.

Developing a belief in something that isn’t presently true is really a matter of brainwashing. No kidding. Think about it, we’re talking about convincing yourself that you see something that isn’t physically there, yet. What else can you call that except brainwashing?

Nothing Left to Lose

During the time that I struggled most in commission-only sales, I was convinced that I couldn’t do it and it wouldn’t work. I hit rock bottom, but I knew I didn’t have an alternative to the job I was in. I definitely wasn’t going back to construction. A manager in the company gave a training about developing a belief in your ability to succeed and made a promise that if I’d try a certain strategy for 30 days, he guaranteed I’d double my sales. I really had nothing to lose so I tried it. This was the strategy:

For 30 days, three times per day, I told myself a huge pack of lies - that I was successful, that I was the best salesman in the company, that I was on track for promotions to better sales positions in the company, that I was invincible, etc. I was fanatical about this daily routine. I gave myself yelling pep talks, pumping my fists and making a big idiot out of myself. Pretty ridiculous right?

Brute Force Strategy for Tripling My Sales

Well it worked. Let me be clear: I don’t believe this is a method to create lasting motivation. That’s another conversation. This is only a method to get past some limiting beliefs you’ve held for a long time by sheer brute force. It’s actually fun and pretty addictive. When you’re done yelling at yourself and cheering yourself on, you feel fantastic. And you feel like a huge dork.

Believing It Makes It True, Guaranteed

Long story short, six weeks later I had tripled my sales and stabilized myself in the company. I’ve never had to look back. If you want to believe something new about yourself, your job, or your future, I recommend dedicating a certain period of time to brainwashing yourself into believing your desired outcomes are real for you in the present. You know the coolest part? Believing it makes it true. I guarantee it.
